Balancing pharmacy school with the creativity of arts seems to be like two different things, Fatima Kabir ( also known FK-ARTIST) is a 400L Pharmacy Student whom has carved a unique path that proves passion and profession can thrive side by side. 

In this interview, she opens up about her journey, the challenges of juggling art and academics, and the inspiration behind her vibrant creations.



Q1- Let’s start with an introduction — Can you tell us your name and what inspired you to venture into art while studying Pharmacy ?


Ans- My name is Fatima Kabir Lawal, currently a 400 level student. I have always been passionate about arts and crafts since childhood,and I'd say among many other passions, I still manage to carry it along through my life journey .


Q2- Can you tell us how your journey as an artist began, and how it has evolved alongside your life as a pharmacy student ?


Ans- My journey as an artist began since childhood, i can't really recall what age, but it started from the nursery school colouring books,to trying to copy cartoon characters be it from the TV or textbook covers,fairy tale story books (Cinderella,snow White, strawberry shortcake etc), then when I reached junior secondary school i started exploring nature paintings using poster colours,and occasionally pencil drawings of cartoon characters to creating house models and city models with cartons,up until I finished secondary school. Then in 2021 a neighbour introduced me to a friend,an art student who gave me some motivations and introduced me to Oil paintings,and since then I started growing in that field. Every time I pick up my brushes It's a whole new me with an improved result in the end.It's actually one of the proudest achievements of my life . So art has been alongside me all along and being a pharmacy student doesn't have much impact on it. 


Q3- How do you manage to combine your passion for painting with the demanding schedule of Pharmacy school ?




 Ans- Well,I think pharmacy has taken more than half of my time to practice and explore into art, because art itself is time consuming. A single work can take weeks or months to finish,not to talk about how it can take away my attention from everything  throughout the process,so in this case I have no choice but to limit working on arts to during breaks or when the lectures are a bit less hectic.



Q4- Let’s get a bit personal (if you don’t mind) — are you currently in a relationship? If yes, how do you manage your time across academics, art, and your personal life?


Ans- I'm married, and I'd say managing my time across academics, art and personal life is incredibly manageable, just like a second nature to me. And with all the support and encouragement I get from my partner, balancing the three all comes together smoothly, making it effortless for me to pursue my passions. 

 

Q4- In just three words, how would you describe your journey so far?


Ans- I'm still alive.


Q5- What advice would you give to students who have a hidden talent or creative passion, but are afraid to pursue it while navigating Pharmacy school?


Ans- One thing about creativity is that it's something that is never too late to start, once you have the passion all you have to do is go ahead and give it a try,and the more you try the more you discover versions of yourself you can never imagine. So pharmacy school shouldn't completely stop one from exploring their hidden talents, all it needs is time management, just know the best time that works for you to grow and develop but don't get too distracted from your academics.
