The leadership of the Pharmaceutical Association of Nigerian Students (PANS), Bayero University Kano (BUK) Chapter, paid a courtesy visit to the Director General of the Drugs and Medical Consumables Supply Agency (DMCSA), Pharm. Gali Sule, to strengthen collaboration, enhance mentorship, and advance professional development for pharmacy students.

The Director General of the Kano State Drugs and Medical Consumables Supply Agency (DMCSA), Pharm. Gali Sule, on Friday received the executive members of the Pharmaceutical Association of Nigerian Students (PANS), Bayero University Kano (BUK) Chapter, during a courtesy visit aimed at deepening institutional partnership and supporting the next generation of pharmacists.

In his address, the DG highlighted significant achievements recorded under his leadership. He noted that drug availability in state-owned healthcare facilities has risen remarkably from 30 percent to over 97 percent. He also mentioned the construction of a world-class PharmaGrade Warehouse and the repayment of approximately ₦1 billion out of a ₦1.2 billion inherited debt.

Additional milestones include the remodeling of the Drug Manufacturing Unit into a modern Quality Control Laboratory, improved drug affordability—making medicines at public facilities about 40 percent cheaper than those in private pharmacies and patent medicine stores according to a 2024 survey—and the turnaround of the Agency’s finances, moving from an inherited negative balance of ₦102 million to a positive fund value of ₦377 million as of September 2025.

Pharm. Sule commended the students for their proactive engagement, leadership, and contributions to promoting ethical practice, capacity building, and public health initiatives within the university community and beyond. He encouraged them to uphold professionalism, integrity, and a commitment to continuous learning.

He further reaffirmed DMCSA’s readiness to support student-led initiatives that align with the Agency’s mandate of ensuring effective procurement, distribution, and management of drugs and medical consumables across Kano State. He expressed willingness to expand mentorship opportunities, strengthen experiential learning pathways, and support health promotion programs.

Earlier, the President of PANS BUK Chapter, Comrade Adamu Sulaiman Adamu, stated that the visit was aimed at briefing the Director General on the association’s activities and its upcoming programs. He emphasized the association’s dedication to enhancing academic excellence, professional growth, and community-driven pharmaceutical care.

Comrade Adamu highlighted past initiatives including student orientation programs, academic tutorials, and the procurement of teaching-assisted equipment and electrical gadgets for improving the learning experience. He also mentioned the association’s scholarship-application webinar, an industrial tour to a pharmaceutical company for hands-on exposure, and participation in the national PANS convention hosted at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.

He further outlined upcoming programs such as a pharmacovigilance workshop, the Young Health Ambassadors Project for career guidance, the PANS Annual Health Week, a medical outreach, an academic symposium, and an inter-level debate among pharmacy students.

The meeting concluded with both DMCSA and PANS BUK expressing a shared commitment to strengthening partnership for enhanced healthcare delivery and improved pharmaceutical education in Kano State.
