The Managing Director of Latnas Pharmaceuticals Nigeria Ltd, Alhaji Sayyid Lawal Atana, has urged pharmaceutical companies in Nigeria to uphold strict compliance with PCN and NAFDAC regulations, describing it as the surest path to sustainable and exponential growth.
Speaking at the Gala and Cultural Night of the 98th Annual National Conference of the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria (PSN), held at The Afficent in Kano on the third day of the conference, Alhaji Atana highlighted that regulatory adherence remains the foundation of credibility and long-term business success in the pharmaceutical sector.
He explained that Latnas Pharmaceuticals has maintained steady growth due to its unwavering commitment to regulatory compliance and integrity. According to him, the company was the first in Nigeria to fully implement the National Drug Distribution Guidelines (NDDG), a framework established to ensure proper control and traceability in the movement of medicines across the country.
While acknowledging that many companies are gradually adopting the NDDG, he noted that Latnas Pharmaceuticals took the bold step early, which has given it a strategic advantage in operations and credibility within the industry.
“We refused to alter our SOPs just to satisfy loan conditions,” he stated. “Remaining compliant with PCN guidelines has paid off for us. Today, the total value of loans we have successfully accessed through compliant and ethical means exceeds what we initially turned down.”
Alhaji Atana revealed that the company had earlier declined loan offers from several financial institutions because the proposed adjustments to its Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) conflicted with PCN-approved standards. He said that maintaining integrity in operations has since attracted partnerships with financiers who respect structure and compliance.
He further emphasized that PCN and NAFDAC are not obstacles but essential guides for excellence. “When you comply, growth becomes natural,” he added. “These agencies provide the blueprint for sustainability and professionalism in the pharmaceutical business.”
The Gala and Cultural Night was one of the highlights of the PSN Conference, featuring colourful cultural performances, music, and networking among pharmacists and industry stakeholders. The event provided an opportunity for professionals to celebrate their achievements while reaffirming their collective commitment to advancing pharmacy practice in Nigeria.
